The Office of Prevention Programs believes that anyone can make a difference in a student’s life. For this reason we work to provide as many resources as possible to make informed decisions about ways that you can effectively prevent and intervene with bullying. Although it is impossible to collect everything available, OPP strives to keep up with the latest in research and resources. Below you will find some of our favorite resources, proven programs, download-able documents, curriculum and links to relevant web-pages, articles, videos and books. Happy hunting!

Assemblies
Please note that we do not recommend assemblies unless part of ongoing efforts and when the proper groundwork has been laid through prior staff training as well as the establishment of schoolwide policies and reporting methods.
- The School Board of Broward County’s Anti-Bullying Policy 5.9: schools are required to train their staff, students and parents using the Anti-Bullying Policy 5.9 Modules and videos for Parents, Students or School Staff.
- iSafe:Internet Safety; Internet Bullying/Harassment for parents, staff or students.
Classroom Presentations , Activities and Exercises
- Anti-Defamation League has numerous excellent resources on diversity and tolerance as well as ADL educator’s guide and classroom lessons for responding to violence and hate.
- The Assertion Jar – grades 3-12 activity through Teaching Tolerance to practice refutation skills.
- Common Sense Media – lessons on online safety, cybercitizenship, and cyberbullying grades K-12
- Cross-Pollinating Clubs & Teams – This activity provided by Teaching Tolerance asks students grades 6-12 to consider ways they might “cross-pollinate” with other clubs and teams in order to make their school experience more fruitful.
- Cruel Schools - Discovery Education has a created a three-part lesson plan for grades 6-8.
- Curriculum Connections Cyberbullying – provides educators with the tools to increase awareness about the problem of cyberbullying.
- “Day of Silence” Planning Manual
- Discovery Health curriculum – free for Broward County Public School Teachers, access it via Broward County Public School’s BEEP Portal.
- Examining and Interrupting Hate: A Lesson for Grades 6–8
- Get Real About Violence – a researched and proven program for K-12. 8-12 weeks on anger management/violence prevention. Access it via Broward County Public School’s BEEP Portal.
- It’s OK to Feel Different - a mentoring activity for older students to take to the elementary schools to show bullying is not OK.
- iSafe – Internet Safety; Internet Bullying/Harassment for parents, staff or students with videos.
- Joe’s Story – “Let’s Fight it Together” – Video and Lesson Plan on Cyberbullying for ages 10-18.
- Mix It Up at Lunch Day – see also Teaching Tolerance.
- National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP), a service of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has information on research based curriculums and proven programs
- PACER Center: bullying prevention videos and materials for National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week which encourages communities to work together to increase awareness of the prevalence and impact of bullying on children with classroom lessons, coloring books, posters, and other resources for all ages.
- Peace Corps Building Bridges for grades 6-12.
- Posters: SBBC’s Program Development Department has created inexpensive anti-bullying posters available for both primary and secondary classrooms
- Preventing Classroom Bullying:What Teachers Can Do Booklet, by Jim Wright
- Reality Avenue show on bullying episode is titled,“Bullying: Who Holds the REAL Power?” Each and every show has FCAT and Sunshine State Standard discussion prompters and classroom exercises/lessons.
- “That’s so Gay!” – GLBTQ related – Have you been reminding others to “Think B4 You Speak” at school or in your community? Click to View VIDEOS and/or to download the corresponding Educators Guide.
- Teaching Tolerance – Classroom activities and teaching kits with videos.
- Teen Action Tool Kit - Building a Youth-Led Response to Teen Victimization – a hands-on implementation guide that marshals the strengths of youth as leaders to transform their communities’ response to teenage victims of crime, while building the resilience of the youth participants at the same time.
- Teens Against Bullying - sign Pacer’s online petition and receive a new bullying prevention activity each month by e-mail
- Who We REALLY Are – mentoring opportunity for older students to go to an elementary classroom to read aloud “I Look Like a Girl” by Sheila Hamanaka and have students make their own self portraits.
- “Words Hurt” Video – by CCA and the related lesson plans are designed, not to frighten, but to highlight the issue of verbal and social bullying, to encourage empathy for the victim and to empower others to recognize the hurt and damage caused by these forms of bullying.
- Word that Heal – Using Children’s Literature to Increase Empathy and Help Students Cope with Bullying.
