Calendar of Observances
The Office of Prevention Calendar of Observances was created to share known prevention, health, and wellness related dates of significance – both nationally and internationally. These dates can provide us with great jumping off points for prevention related meetings, trainings, community events, schoolwide/classroom initiatives, lesson plans, or conferences. These observances help us to promote and increase awareness for those issues we find most relevant and closest to our hearts. The dates can be used to commemorate, promote and mobilize us for action as they sensitize and increase our communities awareness – key factors to promoting prevention on a year round basis.
How is this Calendar organized?
As you view The Office of Prevention Calendar of Observances , you will see that it is organized in chronological order by month and year. Other information within the calendar:
DATES:
This calendar lists the dates of observance in three ways: month long, week long, and single day observances. When planning, keep in mind many topics have a month, week, AND a day that is dedicated to a similar theme. There also are observances that seem the same, but have different dates due to one being local, one National, and another International.
SPONSORED BY:
Materials for your use may be available where “sponsored by” is denoted. These sponsoring organizations’ contributions may range from a single flyer to kits of promotional materials. Most are free, but some request a donation or have fees.
LINKS:
Within the calendar, many of the dates will have links or email addresses to monthly activities, membership drive ideas, and public awareness promotional websites where you can learn more about that observance and to help make your efforts successful.
But what about….?
Information appearing on this page does not represent an endorsement by the Office of Prevention and we play no role in naming national health observances. Additionally, this list remains a “work in progress” and in no way represents a comprehensive list of every observance. Observances highlighted in yellow are those so far in advance that we have not been able to yet confirm their exact date.
