Tobacco Competition
Rules: ONLY Broward County Middle School Students
How to enter:
Students must:
1. Visit Drug Free Broward during November 16- 30,2009
2. Visit various websites to learn about tobacco.
3. Then take a quiz to test their knowledge.
4.The most answers correct in the shortest amount of time will win.
Awards, prizes, incentives: Participants have a chance to win: iPod, iPod Touch, iTunes gift cards. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each grade in middle school.
Due date: Contest will only run from November 16-30, 2009
Submission(s) will be collected: Via Survey Monkey
Students will be notified or receive recognition/award: Via the school
Requirements or expectations for the winners/selected students: Attend the awards ceremony with Superintendent Notter and guests

Deadline October 2, 2009
Come one, come all! All students in the Broward County Schools are eligible to partake in this exciting poster contest! Posters will be judged in separate divisions for grade levels 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9th through grade 12. The Theme of all posters must incorporate the contest theme “Bystanders Hold the Power”. (Bystander-a person close to the action) These words must appear on each poster. The poster Size must be on 11″ x 17″ paper. Any type of plain white paper may be used for the poster; however, lightweight paper should be mounted on tag board or other self-supporting paper.

Art Media: you can use the following items: Crayons, cut paper, felt tip pens, markers, pencils, pen and ink, etc., may be used to create the poster. The following items are not to be used: Wood, plastic, glass, metal, fabric, collage materials, stencils, stickers, tracings. Posters must be flat for print shop reproduction purposes.
Identification: Your name, grade, and school must appear on a separate piece of paper attached to the back of the poster.
Copyright: Your poster cannot include any copyrighted characters, such as those from comics, cartoons, television programs, newspapers, magazines, etc.
Deadline: Send grade level winning posters to Sarah Arvelo, Prevention Specialist, Office of Prevention/Student Support Services, KCW,7th floor, by October 2, 2009.
Judging criteria: Judges will look for relationship of the poster design to the theme, originality of the poster, quality of artwork, visual impact of poster design, and suitability of poster for printing.
Winners: A winning poster will be selected for each division at each school to advance to the district level contest. District winners will be recognized, their posters will be displayed district wide and through Broward Education Communication Network (BECON). One poster will be chosen to be printed and distributed.
2009 Prevention School of Excellence Award
These Broward County Schools are being recognized for their outstanding efforts this school year in providing effective services, supports, and activities that promote positive behaviors - development of emotional resilience skills, positive mental health and prosocial actions - while limiting and/or preventing violent behavior and drug use.
Their efforts to support the Project Bridge initiative, but more importantly, to create a safe and secure learning environment for our students, is to be commended.
