P.S.C.I. - Positive School Culture Initiative

District Contact: Joel Monreal

Although much attention is placed on the academic curriculum, the human curriculum that is practiced daily through thought, word, and action cannot be ignored. This positive human connection is the Positive School Culture Initiative's goal. P.S.C.I. improves the school-wide culture by increasing trust and respect within the school, while at the same time reducing hurtful, bullying behaviors.

The initiative begins by training the entire staff and then works with the student body over the remaining school year. The interventions occur on three levels: school wide, classroom and individual. Activities include staff development, student assemblies, classroom presentations / discussions, as well as reinforcing academic materials to be used in the classroom. This long-term multi-dimensional approach has school examine all facets of their culture, including academic achievement, classroom and common area management, parental involvement, and school wide practices.

A three year commitment is necessary in order to participate in this initiative.
