Follow-up Discussion Questions

Questions can be utilized as a resource for an interactive teacher driven activity or as a prompter for written assignments.  Classroom ground rules for the discussion should be set, if not already, for confidentiality (no names – “I know someone who…”), respect (all ideas accepted), what is said in the class stays in the class, we all get a chance to talk, keep an open mind, etc.

  1. What is your understanding of the term self esteem?
  2. What can you do to build your self esteem?
  3. How can you help to improve someone else’s self esteem?
  4. List some of your unique characteristics.
  5. How does the view or the opinion of others affect your self esteem?
  6. Is there a particular individual that you know who has high self esteem? If so, how is it evident?
  7. Which is more important to you, your opinion of yourself or other peoples’ opinion of you?
  8. How does having low self esteem affect someone?  What are some of the adverse effects of a poor self esteem?
  9. After watching the program, what message was the expert trying to convey when he stated that self esteem was a journey not a destination?
  10. How can your support-system assist you in the improvement of your self esteem?
  11. What are the benefits of having a high self esteem?
  12. What are the psychological/character traits that you admire most about youself?
