is an innovative and engaging approach to violence and substance abuse prevention programming. It was created from the vision of the School Board of Broward County's Office of Prevention Program's student focus groups. The show's goal of prevention is accomplished by bringing students, teachers and families together and by presenting facts and skills in a dynamic (as opposed to static) and entertaining format, with constant stimulation to the eyes, ears and mind. This Multi-Sensory or Multiple Intelligences approach to teaching is youth directed and therefore styled to be fast paced, up-beat, energetic and modern. This style ensures dynamic, active and continuous change to maintain individual attention and ensure that students of differing learning styles can absorb and retain the prevention information being presented.
Description of Reality Avenue
is a series of 12, half hour, violence and substance abuse prevention programs. It was created with the use of student focus groups to ensure a fast paced, cutting edge style that would be attractive to the current generation. Each month a new prevention topic is presented and can be viewed by students, staff and parents during the day or evening. This show brings families together and presents timely and important prevention information in a dynamic and entertaining format. But entertainment alone is not the goal of . Rather it is the strategy, by which to educate and provide life skills. This vital information is accessible to all families through the School Board's broadcasting company, BECON TV, as well as the Comcast cable station. The daytime airing into the classroom is aimed toward teachers and their students. Some topics will be suitable to elementary students, and all will be appropriate for middle and high. FCAT and Sunshine State Standard related exercises for teachers are available on this website to accompany the airings.
The format of varies from street interviews, up close and personal individual interviews to expert and Reality Group discussions. The cast of is a diverse and exciting group, showcasing the School Board of Broward County's talent. It utilizes staff as well as a charismatic and interesting group of students who we follow and get to know as they explore the most challenging and often controversial topics of our age in an engaging reality format.
