What is REALITY AVENUE?

Reality Avenue Set

The goal of REALITY AVENUE is to educate and empower people to take control of their lives. It is the voice of this generation and was created using student focus groups. BUT, it is not for young people, it is for ALL people. We all have so much to learn from each other and this is a place where we can begin.

How can REALITY AVENUE help you and your family?

REALITY AVENUE is an avenue for you to find out what is REALLY going on with the younger generation, as well as a way to learn more about yourself. Best of all, it is a vehicle by which essential prevention and intervention information is shared to keep you and those you love safe. You may not agree with everything that is said in the Street Interviews or in the Reality Group, but it will make you think.

Most importantly, REALITY AVENUE can help to open the door between you and your children. In creating this show, one specific goal was to increase communication and in turn, the sense of connectedness within families. We are all so busy. Having a tool to help start those conversations we find most challenging is an amazing opportunity! What is REALLY going on in the minds and lives of our children? Begin to find out by watching REALITY AVENUE, then use the show as a platform from which to jump into a conversation with those you love. If you would like some conversations starters, you might want to try these. CLICK HERE to get some sample question you can use with your family.

Workshop

What is available to you?

Entertainment alone is not enough. REALITY AVENUE is a vehicle to gather facts and skills as well. Besides the Reality Group, Message Booth, Street Interviews and up close and personal Individual Interviews, each show has an Expert Interview, Resource Page and Workshop available to all viewers. The Workshops are 2 hours and give in-depth training on each show topic to teachers, students, parents and members of the community.

If you still have questions, the School Board of Broward County's Office of Prevention Programs is available with a staff of Family Counselors and trainers, offering free services. For more information on REALITY AVENUE and/or to attend our upcoming workshop, contact the Office of Prevention Programs (754) 321-2568.
