Media Literacy

Every day our children and students are being taught lessons that WE never wanted them to learn – because they are false and unhealthy.  Who are teaching our children these lessons?  The media.  Today’s media play an increasingly strong role in transmitting values, knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and social norms.  We are constantly bombarded while online, driving to and from school by the radio, while reading, and when watching TV.

We need help to make healthy choices and to decipher the truth from lies.  This is accomplished by teaching ourselves and our children the skills necessary to assess, analyze, and understand the influence of media in their lives.  These critical skills will be increasingly important as young people enjoy greater access to tremendous volumes of information and entertainment through countless media outlets.

Below you will find just a few of the numerous individuals and organizations dedicated to championing media literacy education and providing parents, youth and educators with resources.
