Project Building Lasting Attitudes and Strategies for Tomorrow (B.L.A.S.T)

Project B.L.A.S.T. is a substance abuse and violence prevention short term counseling program.  The program has family counselors based in middle schools, who provide free services county-wide. The counselors are dedicated to promoting the academic, behavioral, and social success of all Broward County students by engaging families in a variety of services including short term (8 to 12 sessions), individual and family counseling as well as community outreach.  The program is aimed at preventing and treating problems that can interfere with school functioning and self-esteem, particularly in the areas of substance abuse and violence.

By “Building Lasting Attitudes and Strategies for Tomorrow,” the B.L.A.S.T. program aims to provide quality services to students and their families that will enhance positive life choices long after the counseling is completed.  Recognizing that student problems often affect the entire family system, parenting skills groups in addition to family counseling are offered through the B.L.A.S.T. program. Our family counselors also provide presentations at schools, community centers, churches, and various other locations to discuss the issues of violence and substance abuse prevention.

Family counselors are available to provide:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Group Counseling
  • Family Counseling
  • Parenting Workshops
  • Presentations to schools, parent groups and community groups in the areas of substance abuse and violence prevention topics
  • Relapse prevention
  • Awareness/Education/Prevention/Early Interventions
