Suicide Prevention
In 1984, the Florida Legislature passed the Florida Youth Emotional Development and Suicide Prevention Act. This act declared the prevention of suicide by youths to be a priority of the state. It called for development of state and local interagency plans for youth suicide prevention and instructed schools to develop a plan for student services. The Broward School District responded in a proactive manner and developed a Suicide Prevention Manual and video. Following this effort, the district trained a suicide prevention designee in each school. The responsibility of this designee is to inservice the staff in warning signs, be a part of the school based crisis team and act as the suicide prevention contact person.
For assistance or questions regarding Suicide Prevention, please contact the Suicide Prevention Designee at the school.
