Broward Schools celebrates Haitian Heritage Month in May, and Haitian Flag Day on May 18th. Both are celebrations of Haitian heritage and culture.  We encourage the use of Haitian/Haitian-American curriculum to “help teachers incorporate diversity and different perspectives of history and culture into the existing curriculum”, and instill a sense of pride in the Haitian students who represent approximately 10% of the student population.  Haitian Heritage Month was first recognized in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1998 and can include events that celebrate Haitian culture, arts, music and cuisine.
