UseToo Good for Drugs (TGFD) (6-8), a research based curriculum, to empower teens to meet the challenges of middle school life by fostering confidence and building resistance to violence and substance abuse. Too Good for Drugs and Violence High School (9-12) is a research based curriculum that builds on the concepts of Too Good K-8, expanding prevention education to deal with issues prevalent in this age group such as underage and binge drinking, tobacco use, use of illegal drugs such as marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription abuse, and over-the-counter medications. In addition, it builds skills for decision making, communication, media literacy and conflict resolution, as well as building and maintaining healthy relationships. Available to BCPS’s employees through the Prevention Program’s CAB Conference.

The goal of Reality Avenue’s, “Addiction: How REAL is it?” is to educate and empower youth and adults to understand the process of addiction to help prevent it from occuring. This program and curriculum are for students grades 6-12.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World “The Truth about Drugs” kit is free with numerous videos, pamphlets, and curriculum surrounding the topic of substance abuse prevention.

Keepin’ It Real for grades 6-9 is a culturally grounded research based drug prevention curriculum that has been proven effective for reducing drug use and establishing anti-drug attitudes and beliefs. The program teaches kids HOW to say “no” to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs without losing friendships. Available to BCPS’s school based employees through the Prevention Programs CAB Conference.

Free DVD series and curriculum for students grades 6-8. Videos focus on drug use prevention with personal testimonies shared by drug free celebrities, athletes, and roles models. Videos show young people living fun, exciting and successful lives without drugs and alcohol by embracing their natural highs.Free of charge – 1 per middle school or contact DCP&P for more information.

As an educator, you play an important role in educating your students about how drugs affect their body, brain, and behavior. NIDA has a range of age-appropriate curricula and activities designed to help you in this challenging role and support your efforts in the classroom. The free lessons and activities promote an understanding of drug abuse and addiction and a curiosity about neuroscience.

Project BRAIN is a Social Norms campaign facilitated in numerous Broward County schools, grades 6-12, by DCO&P. Use of the fun “Human Brain: Operator’s Manual” along with the 6 BRAIN videos helps to prevent or reduce under-age drinking by raising awareness and empowering students to make healthy positive choices!
